Homeopathy

Homeopathic treatment, combined with Reiki and localised massage is very effective in the treatment of aches, pains, injuries and long standing health problems too.

The combination of body work and homeopathic treatment means that your healing and recovery can continue beyond and between treatments. Homeopathic remedies can help you to go on getting better after your session.

A few frequently asked questions about Homeopathy

What can I expect in an appointment/session?

A first appointment will involve taking your case and can last up to 90 minutes. I will want to know what you are looking for help with and where you are at in your life at the moment. I will need a medical history from you and information about the medical history and health of your family including grandparents. If you are taking any prescribed or over the counter medicines or supplements I need to know what these are and also any medicines you may have had in the past as well as operations and dental work.

The session may also include questions about things like food preferences and how you react in particular situations. Such as things like what makes you happy or sad or angry. Or how you respond to the weather. My aim though is always to encourage you to talk and through this to find a remedy or perhaps remedies to help you. I may well refer to a book called ‘the repertory’ or its companion ‘the materia medica’ during your session this will be to help me to differentiate between and choose remedies for you from the hundreds available. I may also prescribe flower or gem essences and suggest supplements to help as well. The remedies will come either in tiny sugar pillules or in liquid format in a dropper bottle and dosage instructions will be provided.

Why doesn‘t the remedy my friend had for a headache work for me?

Because your friend is not you! I may sound flippant answering like this but it is very much the case. A remedy is tailored to suit the individual and their particular symptoms. Of course there is good old Nux Vomica which is a fabulous help for after over indulgence whether the adult with one too many glasses of wine or the child who has overdone it with the birthday cake and it will generally do the trick, easing the headache and nausea.

Is homeopathy the same as herbs/herbalism?

Well, yes in that herbs are the source of some homeopathic remedies but at the same time no because the homeopathic remedy has been diluted so many times that it contains so miniscule an amount of the original source or energy of the substance as to appear not to be there. It is this very miniscule amount or infinitessimal dose that makes homeopathy different in that it does not seek to treat the symptom necessarily but to rebalance a state of health within the individual. Herbs may well be prescribed by a homeopath as a support in long-term treatment or to help as a general health boost along with vitamins and supplements.

Is homeopathy safe in pregnancy, while breast feeding and for babies and children?

Homeopathy is completely safe to use in all of the above situations and can help to make life a lot easier. Pregnancy, birth, post partum and early years are times when many people want to avoid any medicines with potential side effects and a great time to use homeopathy. I am happy to make up personalised birth and family kits to suit individual needs.

What is the meaning of 6c, 30c, etc when written after the remedy name?

The letter denotes the scale which in the case of the C stands for centessimal and the number the potency a 6c would be more suited to a physical complaint and a 30c for emotional issues but this is very much a rule of thumb. Never let the potency discourage you from using a remedy in a first aid situation. 6c and 30c are the most usual potencies you will find to buy in whole food shops or chemists and are the most appropriate for general day to day first aid.

Can I use homeopathy alongside medicines from the doctor?

Homeopathic remedies can be safely used alongside prescription medicines but it is a good idea to let your doctor know what you are doing. Also it is really helpful for the homeopath to know what medicines you are taking as their side effects need to be taken into account when taking your case. Side effects of medicines and medical treatment can often be eased with homeopathic remedies.

I am having counselling. Is it a good idea to have homeopathy at the same time?

Homeopathy works really well alongside counselling and other therapies and can often help you to deal with emotional issues that arise. Some homeopaths, myself included, have training in counselling and/or other therapies and can offer an integrated approach.

I offer a free ten minute introductory chat or discussion so that you can ask me questions and decide if homeopathic treatment is for you. Please note that this is a chat not an appointment and I wont prescribe remedies for you at this stage as your case needs to be taken fully in order to do this.
